I’ll be honest, making time for date nights is hard – especially when you have a young family. You have to book a sitter (which isn’t always free) and then find something fun to do that won’t drain your bank account.
I know because my husband and I struggled with this too. When the date nights stopped that started to take a toll on our relationship.
We had to become intentional about creating alone time — even if that meant all we could get was two hours away from the kids. And we found fun, simple, and cheap date night ideas to do at home! (Because there’s nothing more stressful than not having time OR money to spend together.)
Today, I want to help you have more date nights at home! I’ve compiled a list of my favorite date night ideas for married couples below.
1. Order in takeout
You can have a candlelight dinner and order in food from your favorite restaurant.
2. Have a movie marathon with popcorn
You can get caught up on movies you haven’t seen or rewatch your favorite childhood movies together.
3. Make it a group date night
You can invite your favorite couples over for dinner, games, and adult fun!
4. Light a fire pit
You don’t have to actually go camping to enjoy some good ole roasted marshmallows. Start a campfire right in your backyard using your grill or a fire pit to make s’ mores, hot dogs, and more!
5. Complete a puzzle
Buy a giant puzzle and see how far you can complete it while working together.
6. Watch a sports game together
You can go all out and order wings, drink beer, and eat snacks. (This is one of my favs — eek!)
7. Do a sexy scavenger hunt at home
There are all kinds of things you can hide in your home to make your partner find. But, if you’re really feeling kinky you can take it up a notch by leaving a trail of rose petals to the bedroom. 😉
8. Make it a game night
Pull out a classic board game, card game, or even play a video game together. If you’re super competitive like we are things will heat up quick!
9. Binge-watch a tv series
Sometimes life makes it hard to keep up with your favorite tv shows. Make this a night where you can get caught up on episodes you missed, or classic movies you love together. Don’t forget to make a large bowl of popcorn.
10. Create a bucket list
Discuss all of the things you want to try, buy, or do together and make a list.
11. Try a new recipe together
Find a new recipe you both find interesting, go grocery shopping, and make it together!
12. Exchange body massages
Learn to give each other massages. Just light a few candles, turn on some relaxing music, and rub down your partner with massage oils or lotions.
13. Take an online quiz
Taking quizzes like personality tests and comparing results is a really fun way to reconnect with your spouse on a deeper level. I also recommend grabbing a copy of the Five Love Languages book and taking the quiz. It’s perfect for understanding how your partner likes to express and receive love!
14. Go stargazing
Grab a blanket and lay out in the grass while gazing at the stars.
15. Work on a DIY project together
Have you been wanting to organize a room in your home, decorate, or repair something? You can do it together!
So what are you waiting for?!
Yes, dating your spouse on a regular is important. But it doesn’t have to be every weekend – especially if your schedules or budget doesn’t allow.
You can start by designating one weekend each month for date night and get a sitter, but when you can’t, you can still have a date night at home with these ideas once the kids have gone to bed!
